In the podcast below, we focused on the research of Prof. Rafi Bistritzer, the 2020 Wolf Prize laureate in Physics, who, together with Prof. Alan McDonald, discovered the "magic angle" in graphene - a discovery that created a breakthrough in the physics of two-dimensional materials and led to the establishment of a new field of research: Twistronics.

His theoretical research showed that rotating one graphene layer relative to another by an angle of 1.1 degrees creates a unique electronic structure that enables the emergence of extraordinary physical properties, including superconductivity at relatively high temperatures. These predictions, confirmed experimentally in 2018, fundamentally changed our understanding of the interplay between the geometry of a material and its electronic properties, opened the door to a whole new family of materials – Moiré materials, and expanded the boundaries of scientific knowledge in the field of solid-state physics.

We asked him about the groundbreaking discovery and also about his research in recent years, including the development of acousto-electric superlattices that enable dynamic control of the electronic structure of two-dimensional materials in real time.
