The International Academy of Astronautics, IAA, has published an update to the principles document intended to guide researchers in the event of a possible discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence. The document, titled Declaration of Principles Concerning the Conduct of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence – 2026 Update, is intended not to describe an encounter with aliens, but to regulate the way the scientific community will handle possible evidence: how to investigate a suspicious signal, when to notify the public, who keeps the data, and what to do if someone offers to respond to the signal.
