Two Tel Aviv University researchers elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Prof. Yishai Rosen-Zvi from the Department of Jewish Philosophy and Talmud and Prof. Yehudit Berman from the Faculty of Life Sciences are the only Israelis elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2026

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the appointment of two researchers from Tel Aviv University: Prof. Yishai Rosen-Zvi, from the Department of Jewish Philosophy and Talmud, and Prof. Yehudit Berman, from the Faculty of Life Sciences, as members of the Academy. This year, 256 researchers were admitted to the Academy, of whom 25 are from outside the United States. Prof. Rosen-Zvi and Prof. Berman are the only two Israeli researchers on the prestigious list. Members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences are interdisciplinary researchers who are leaders in their fields and whose research contributes to the advancement of the public good.

Prof. Yishai Rosen-Zvi, from the Department of Jewish Philosophy and Talmud, in the Antin Faculty of Humanities, is a world-renowned groundbreaking researcher whose research focuses on the study of Talmudic literature, midrashic hermeneutics, and the relationship of rabbinic culture to Second Temple literature and early Christianity. For his achievements, he was elected to the Young Israel Academy of Sciences and received the Rothschild Prize for 2025, and his books have been published by international publishers.

Prof. Yehudit Berman, from the Shmunis School of Biomedical and Cancer Research, in the Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, is a leading researcher in the field of microbiology and genetics. In her research, she focuses on cellular response mechanisms to drugs and the effects of genetic mutations on this, as well as drug tolerance in a model of the pathogen. Candida albicansProf. Berman has published many internationally recognized articles. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Society for Microbiology, and was elected as a member of the European Organization for Molecular Biology.
