The r process

On August 17, 2017, in the lensing galaxy NGC 4993, the first collision between two neutrino stars was observed by measuring gravitational waves. Artificial intelligence helps decipher how heavy elements in the universe are formed

The RHINE model uses a neural network to quickly calculate the energy released in the r-process. The researchers hope the method will improve simulations of neutron star mergers and the interpretation of light emitted from kilonovae.
